RACE 1: CASUARINA MAIDEN – 1000M

The Club’s Doctor was delayed en route to the course. Jockey D. Staeck was dislodged from EZINIKOFF (D. Staeck) en route to the barrier, taking an apparent harmless fall. EZINIKOFF was recaptured at the barrier and after being examined by the Club’s Veterinary Officer was passed fit to start. COYABA (J. Whiting) (33/1) which was unable to be loaded was withdrawn at 12.53 p.m. All bets on COYABA were ordered to be refunded with no other alterations to betting. Trainer Ms C. Stelmach was advised that COYABA would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. As a result of these delays, this race started several minutes after the advertised start time. BARFINE (T. Ikenushi) bounded on jumping. STARTEGO (P. Farrell) was slow into stride. CONCERTATA (N. Rudland) veered inwards shortly after the start. Approaching the 800m ARISTOCRAT LAD (P. Harvey) lay inwards away from SPLENDID ROYAL (K. Forrester) bumping STARTEGO onto CONCERTATA which steadied. OFF THE SHELF (W. Arnold) race greenly in the early stages, having to be steadied off the heels of ABBY DEE (P. Knuckey) near the 800m. Passing the 500m STARTEGO steadied off the heels of MR JINGLES (C. Dredge) and rolled inwards causing CONCERTATA to be steadied. EZINIKOFF lay outwards over the final 200m.

RACE 2: MELALEUKA MAIDEN – 1250M

SCOTCH (J. Oliver) commenced awkwardly, bumping DON’T SAY DON’T (L. Camilleri). Approaching the 900m KING SIZE (C. Farrell), when racing ungenerously, shifted inwards bumping LOCAL PRODUCT (N. Rudland) which shifted inwards bumping EVERYBODY (A. Sansom) onto DOLLY ZIUTO (P. Knuckey). Shortly afterwards, KING SIZE shifted outwards bumping I’M TOO DEADLY (K. Forrester). I’M TOO DEADLY bumped MOOKTA RIDGE (D. Randall) on several occasions between the 900m and the 800m. MOOKTA RIDGE raced wide throughout. Passing the 300m POEM (S. McGruddy) shifted outwards bumping KING SIZE on two occasions, with KING SIZE having to steady off I’M TOO DEADLY, which had a tendency to lay inwards at that point.

RACE 3: ACACIA MAIDEN – 1600M

MR. RIPLEY (K. Forrester) shifted inwards at the start bumping ROYAL YANKEE (C. Itzstein) which lost ground. GLEN WILLOW (N. Rudland) and PROFANE (T. Ikenushi) bumped on jumping. Jockey K. Forrester (MR. RIPLEY) dropped his whip passing the 1550m. M’LADY ROYALE (P. Knuckey) raced wide throughout. GLEN WILLOW lay inwards over the final 150m. GOLDEN NUGGET (S. McGruddy) had a tendency to lay inwards over the final 100m.

RACE 4: ADVANCED TREES HANDICAP – 2200M

WARRIGAL (P. Knuckey) was fractious in the barrier prior to the start then commenced awkwardly. When questioned on the disappointing performance of HEREDITARY, Jockey S. McGruddy reported that after racing wide from the 800m, the gelding had taken the turn near the 600m awkwardly and had changed stride prior to straightening. A Veterinary inspection of HEREDITARY revealed nothing amiss. LANAARA’S SON (P. King) had a tendency to lay inwards near the 150m. MY HATRAS (T. Ikenushi) lay outwards approaching the 100m.

RACE 5: W.A. FARM TREES-NORTHAM HANDICAP – 1250M

Shortly after the start, MAJESTIC BELLE (C. Harvey) rolled outwards causing SEACOMBE GROVE (W. Arnold) to ease. MAJESTIC BELLE was held up from on straightening until passing the 325m. KOLINSKY (J. Hustwitt) rolled outwards over the final 200m holding MOSS MINSTER (D. Randall) tight. Inside the 100m MOSS MINSTER bumped ARABASH (D. Staeck) which had a tendency to lay inwards at that point. MAJESTIC BELLE returned having cast the off fore plate.

RACE 6: CALLISTEMON HANDICAP – 1600M

THE BUSINESS END (D. Staeck) and AKRAM WARRIOR (J. Whiting) raced wide throughout. When questioned as to his reasons for leading today as opposed to MAROONA racing in a rearward position as its previous start, Jockey N. Chapman advised that the gelding had jumped quicker than anticipated and then had commenced to race keenly in the early stages. He therefore elected to allow MAROONA to stride to the front. Trainer Mr R. Smith advised that MAROONA had been somewhat slow to begin in recent starts, however he was of the opinion that the gelding was better suited when ridden on the pace and he would instruct that MAROONA be ridden in that manner where possible.

RACE 7: EUCALYPTUS HANDICAP – 1400M

SOUTHERLY BLEST (D. Staeck) was buffeted at the start between PROUD PARAMOUR (J. Whiting) and AFFAIR LADY (L. Camilleri). KINGSTON BLAZE (P. Harvey) raced fiercely for a major part of the race. PROUD PARAMOUR raced keenly in the middle stages. HEIR AFFAIR (A. Ng) hung outwards from the 800m.

RACE 8: RED RIVER GUM HANDICAP – 1400M

WIN TO GRIN (T. Ikenushi) and BRAIN STORM (Danny Miller) bumped at the start. Passing the 1000m POLAR PRINCE (W. Arnold) was steadied as FORNEW (L. Camilleri) rolled inwards. Near the 975m MY CHARISMA (A. Sansom), when racing keenly, was steadied off the heels of WIN TO GRIN. SYLVIA’S DAUGHTER (P. Knuckey) had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 150m and bumped on several occasions with CASUAL SMILE (J. Oliver) near the 75m. CASUAL SMILE returned with a minor laceration to the near hind.
