RACE 1: THE SCENIC – 1400M

On jumping ORION STAR (P. Harvey) commenced extremely awkwardly, veered inwards and struck the hindquarters of HALOPAK (K. Hawkins) which had shifted outwards slightly. STAR OF VAIN (A. Sansom) dwelt at the start and shortly after baulked, losing ground. Shortly after the start TRIMAGIC (P. Carbery) lay outwards making heavy contact with BLEEPAK (J. Whiting). SUAVE LADY (T. Turner) raced keenly in the early and middle stages and restrained away from the heels of BLEEPAK near the 900m. Approaching the 800m STAR OF VAIN lay outwards bumping with SUAVE LADY on several occasions. In the middle stages ORION STAR and JUGAHLI (P. Farrell) over raced. At the 550m ORION STAR and STAR OF VAIN made contact. When questioned, Jockey T. Turner (SUAVE LADY) explained that after receiving a bump near the 800m, SUAVE LADY had then hung outwards and had been extremely disappointing. SUAVE LADY returned with blood in its mouth and a Veterinary examination revealed nothing amiss. Trainer Mr C. Webster advised it was his intention to have SUAVE LADY fully vetted and report any findings to the Stewards. In view of the disappointing performance, Trainer Mr C. Webster was advised that SUAVE LADY would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. Leaving the 400m MAGDELAINE (L. Camilleri) and STAR OF VAIN brushed. ORION STAR had an inclination to hang inwards over the final 250m. Jockey M. Ryan (JUNGLE CURRENT) was reminded of his obligations in regards to the excessive use of the whip.

RACE 2: THE BLACKFRIARS – 1400M

Leaving the 700m, IMAGINE IF (N. Chapman), VAIN ZOE (P. King) and TOP QUEST (J. Whiting) all raced extremely tightly, bumping on several occasions. At the 400m NATIONAL SILK (T. Turner), when racing tight on the inside of CLASSIC LADY (S. Parnham), bumped with MISS HURRY KAHN (P. Harvey). At the 250m MISS HURRY KAHN was momentarily held up behind STILETTO LADY (Jason Brown). Approaching the 200m CLASSIC LADY lay inwards, slightly inconveniencing NATIONAL SILK.

RACE 3: THE ROYAL SCRIBE – 1400M

ACAREEBAH (A. Sansom) commenced awkwardly and then bumped heavily with REAL STORM (P. King) on its inside. NATIVE REGENT (T. Ikenushi) was slow into stride. BURRINGTON COOMBE (L. Camilleri) shifted outwards at the start striking the hindquarters of MAGGORO (P. Harvey). After this BURRINGTON COOMBE shifted inwards inconveniencing JAYANBEE RARE (P. Farrell) which then made contact with the hindquarters of GOLD BUDGET (S. Parnham). Near the 900m TRUE EXILE (M. Ryan) lay inwards bumping LAUDA (N. Chapman). MAGGORO attempted to jump the shadow at the 200m. At the turn into the straight MAGGORO and LAUDA brushed. ACAREEBAH, which was following, lay outwards slightly inconveniencing TRUE EXILE.

Leaving the 400m, BLINDED (Danny Miller) was momentarily held up. Approaching the 300m WILLY BE GOOD (J. Whiting) was blocked behind GRID (Jason Miller). GOLD BUDGET made the turn into the straight wide. On straightening JAYANBEE RARE had difficulty in obtaining a clear run behind BURRINGTON COOMBE, then bumped the hindquarters of GOLD BUDGET which lay inwards slightly. Shortly after this JAYANBEE RARE lay outwards making further contact with GOLD BUDGET. When questioned, Jockey P. King advised that he had allowed REAL STORM to work to the middle of the track on straightening as he believed it was the better going.

RACE 4: THE LORD LEXUS – 1600M

AQUA TAJ (P. King) raced wide throughout. Approaching the 800m MUEZZIN (J. Whiting) steadied when close to the heels of ALPINE TROOPER (P. Carbery). Leaving the 100m MUEZZIN momentarily steadied from the heels of DASH FOR COVER (N. Rudland).

RACE 5: THE KALGOORLIE BOULDER RACE ROUND – 1600M

SWIFT SPICE (K. Hawkins) threw its head on jumping and then raced fiercely in the early stages. Approaching the 1400m TRACK JESTER (C. Dredge) was buffeted from PERFECT MINX (P. King) on its outside and FACE YOUR FEARS (C. Itzstein) on its inside. Leaving the 1400m ZAHEED (Danny Miller), when being steadied, got its head in the air.

RACE 6: THE LITTLE IMAGELE – 1300M

On jumping THE TIN MAN (L. Camilleri) and KAME’S HOPE (W. Arnold) collided. At the 1100m NOBLE SKY (P. King) steadied when close to the heels of KAME’S HOPE. NOBLE SKY raced wide throughout. At the 400m MAJOR METAL (Jason Brown) when angling outwards bumped with NOBLE SKY. MAJOR METAL returned with a laceration to the off fore cannon. NOBLE SKY returned with a minor laceration to the off hind fetlock. DESERT DREAMER (Jason Miller) returned having cast both fore plates.

RACE 7: THE MAN-O-BLUE – 1200M

WESTERN TYCOON (P. Carbery) lay outwards from the 500m carrying SHANE’S BOY (A. Sansom) wide on the track. At the 300m HANDOVER steadied when close to the heels of CORPORATE ROCKET (S. Parnham). Jockey P. Carbery reported that WESTERN TYCOON had an inclination to lay outwards slightly in the early and middle stages, but approaching the 500m had commenced to hang outwards. A veterinary examination revealed WESTERN TYCOON to be lame in the off fore leg. Mr T. Martinovich advised the Stewards that it was his intention to consider changing the racing bit of WESTERN TYCOON. Trainer Mr T. Martinovich was advised that WESTERN TYCOON would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing again. Jockey Stephen Miller reported that HANDOVER had constantly shifted ground throughout the race. KING KARIBA returned having cast its near hind plate.

RACE 8: THE DURHAM LODGE – 2000M

MAROONED PRINCE (Jason Miller) commenced awkwardly. PAINTED SILVER (K. Hawkins) threw its head on jumping, raced wide from the 1400m and returned with a cut lip. Shortly after the start WARNING TUNE (J. Oliver) and MAROONED PRINCE bumped. STORM POWER (P. King) raced wide throughout. At the 75m BOLD MIRAGE (T. Turner) and MAROONED PRINCE bumped. Trainer Mr L. Trew advised that NEWTOWN MAGIC would now be sent for a spell. Jockey P. King reported that STORM POWER hung outwards from the 800m. Trainer Mr P. Humann advised that he would now consider changing the racing bit on STORM POWER. ADVENTURER (P. Carbery) returned with a laceration to the near nostril.

Routine Specimens were taken from all winners.
