RACE 1: TIM MOSEL MAIDEN – 1600M

ISLAVORN (A. Sansom) threw its head on jumping and veered outwards bumping TOROLOSA (P. Carbery). MAGIC OF FILM (N. Rudland) shifted out at the start carrying FIRE OF BEAU (Danny Miller) out with JONATHON SEAGULL (K. Hawkins) being crowded between that gelding and REDROAR (P. Farrell). THE WILLAGEE WITCH (W. Arnold) shifted inwards at the start bumping SOUTHLAND HIGH (C. Itzstein). ISLAVORN raced wide and ungenerously throughout getting its head in the air on several occasions. JONATHON SEAGULL raced wide from the 800m. SILENT MOMENT (J. Whiting) ran wide on straightening. When questioned on the improved performance of GREY WAVE (D. Randall), Trainer Ms K. Gammon advised that, in her opinion, the addition of blinkers and the gelding being ridden close to the lead contributed to the improved performance this afternoon. Stewards inquired into the apparent lack of vigour shown by Apprentice D. Randall (GREY WAVE) over the final 50m. Apprentice Randall explained that after using the whip until inside the 100m, as GREY WAVE tired he elected to ride the gelding out hands and heels. Mr M. Pateman, advised that due to concerns expressed by Stewards in recent months regarding Apprentice Randall’s technique, efforts had been made to improve in this regard. Stewards were of the opinion that GREY WAVES finishing position had not been affected, however considered that Apprentice Randall’s riding technique required further improvement. He was directed to undergo a five week training period on the mechanical horse under the supervision of Riding Master, Mr L. Millington.
