Spell For Hay List

Hay ListExcellent Western Australian sprinter Hay List will be sent to the paddock after finishing sixth in the $200,000 Group Three Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Jockey Jason Brown, who has ridden Hay List at all racetrack appearances including trials, told stewards that after bounding at the start he allowed Hay List to stride forward and take the lead at the 600m where he travelled comfortably until mis-striding before the home turn.

According to Brown, the four-year-old slipped around the bend and weakened from that point onwards.

A post-race veterinary check revealed Hay List to be lame in his near foreleg with trainer Jim Taylor notifying stewards of his intention to spell the gelding.

Prior to yesterday's defeat, Hay List was unbeaten from eight starts with $244,125 in prizemoney next to his name.
