PRISMATIC REEF (S Burrows) jumped inwards at the start bumping CHARIOT WAY (T Huish). In the straight B HUPPATZX, rider of IT'S OUR BOY had to stop riding his mount after drifting in and bumping RAJA MAHAL (G Lefoe).

NT 6: OPEN HANDICAP 1100 METRES 8 STARTERS

On jumping GO VINNIE GO (M Cornell) bumped ZILLIONAIRE (B Cornell) approaching the 200M mark. DANGER'S PRIDE (P Johnson) which was losing ground ran in sharply and hit the inside running rail. Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of that gelding. A veterinary examination revealed that DANGER'S PRIDE had injured his offside front knee. The Veterinarian recommended the horse be retired. The horse is now banned from racing under NT63(I).

KOHATON (G Lefoe) jumped outwards as start effected. Correct Weight was delayed when the rider of GO BRAGH (S Burrows) and the trainer of the horse Mr G CARIGE requested to view the photo finish. After viewing the photo and consulting with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared on Judges numbers.

PRISMATIC REEF (S Burrows) jumped inwards onto TJILPI (T Norton). EDGE TO EDGE (P Johnson) knuckled over at the start. MURPHY'S PRIZE (B Cornell) dwelt as start effected losing some ground. Approaching the 600 metre mark MURPHY'S PRIZE (B Cornell) who was inclined to over race had to be eased off the heels of EDGE TO EDGE (P Johnson). Subsequent to the race jockey B CORNELL, rider of MURPHY'S PRIZE stated that he might have been denied a fair start. After viewing the film of the start Stewards declared that MURPHY'S PRIZE had been afforded a fair start.

1ST EDGE TO EDGE 2ND CROWN PACIFIC 3RD TJILPI

NT 5: CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 5 STARTERS

COVET'S GEM (P Johnson) reared as start effected losing about 15 lengths. Subsequent to the race Stewards viewed the film of the start of the race and it was confirmed that COVET'S GEM had been afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared.

NT 7: CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 6 STARTERS

Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of STYLISH GAMBLER who had performed poorly in the race. The Veterinarian reported that the horse had pulled up showing respiratory distress but revealed no lameness. Stewards will inform trainer MR K LAMPRECHT that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before the horse starts again.

As S Brownbill (a) was unable to ride at his MRW stewards permitted M Osmond to replace him as the rider of MANTIS in Race 6. As there were no replacement riders for ANELLO ROSSO in Race 8, OAKLEIGH BOY in Race 9 or TORDEAN in Race 10 S Brownbill (a) was permitted to fulfill those engagements.

S Brownbill (a) was fined $200 (LR91C) for failing to ride at his declared MRW.

When the gates opened DEEP SEA DIVA was slow into stride.

During the race the saddle on THERMAL slipped back and the gelding’s rider P Shiers dropped his whip in the straight.

When the gates opened RODIN was slow into stride.

On jumping away GROSVENOR LANE (NZ) and STORM CONTROL came together.

Rounding the turn STORM CONTROL had a tendancy to lay out.

Stewards questioned L Schmidt, rider of STORM CONTROL about that gelding’s disappointing performance today. L Schmidt stated that the gelding had to work hard to get to the lead and normally it weakens quickly unless it gets an easy run in the lead.

Shortly after the start LEGAL REWARD had to be eased when tightened for room by ARCH HENRY (L Schmidt) which shifted in. The interference was accentuated by LEGAL REWARD which had a tendency to throw it’s head in the air and ARCH HENRY which layed in for the majority of the race. However L Schmidt was notified that in future he must ensure he does his utmost to protect his fellow riders.

RACE TEN OPEN HCP – 11OO M

Shortly after the start BROOKLYN BULLET attempted to buck and was eased down by it’s rider P Shiers. P Shiers stated that the gelding had a small pinch near the girth when he unsaddled and this may have caused the gelding to attempt to buck.

Ms L Williams, trainer of PASS THE VAS requested that the club veterinary surgeon inspect the gelding on arrival at the course as it had swelling below it’s near fore fetlock. Acting on the advice of the club veterinary surgeon that the gelding was sore and unfit to start the stewards ordered the withdrawal of PASS THE VAS at 3.10 pm. Stewards questioned Ms Williams regarding the circumstances of PASS THE VAS injury. She stated that the injury was discovered at about 8.30 am this morning and she did not scratch or notify the club of the injury to PASS THE VAS as she had hoped that the injury may abate and it would be fit to start. Stewards imposed a scratching fee of $200 upon Ms Williams for the scratching of PASS THE VAS.

On jumping away DALRIADA knuckled.

Shortly after the start ROCKEASY and MERITS came together when MERITS rolled in.

Passing the 800 metres MERITS raced tight between ROCKEASY and THERMAL.

In the latter part of the straight JUSTICE JOHN had a tendency to lay in which necessitated S Brownbill (a), the gelding’s rider to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Near the 50 metres JUSTICE JOHN was accidentally struck on the nose by the whip of J Hallam (a), rider of MCCRAE (NZ).

S Brownbill (a) was unable to ride at his MRW on JUSTICE JOHN and DABLOOM (Race 8). As there were no apprentice riders available to replace him, stewards permitted him to fulfill his engagements. S Brownbill (a) was fined $100 (NT91(c)) for failing to ride at his declared MRW. Stewards notified S Brownbill (a) that if he was to fail to ride at his MRW in the near future without an acceptable explanation stewards would consider suspending his permit to ride in races.

On jumping away RUSTY DON jumped awkwardly and was then tightened for room by PERAK SILVER (NZ) which shifted in abruptly.

P Shiers, rider of PERAK SILVER (NZ) dismounted prior to returning to the placegetters stalls. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected PERAK SILVER (NZ) subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg.

D Bates, rider of FULL GALLOP, which performed below expectations stated that the gelding weakened after being challenged in the lead for the majority of the race, which caused the gelding to overace.

CENTRE PLAYBOY (B Huppatz) and PRISMATIC REEF (S Burrows) came together just after the start. PRISMATIC REEF (S Burrows) raced greenly in the early stages of the race. COSTA KEYS returned to the enclosure with blood in its mouth. A veterinary examination revealed a cut on the corner of its mouth.

1ST MURPHY'S PRIZE 2ND PRISMATIC REEF 3RD COSTA KEYS

NT 2 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 7 STARTERS

BARROW was kicked by another runner prior to the start. After being examined by the Veterinarian BARROW was passed fit to start. LIKE ALESHIA (T Norton) knuckled over nearly falling as start effected. LEGAL REWARD (P Johnson) was slow to begin. Subsequent to the race Stewards questioned trainer Mr K LAMPRECHT, trainer of STREWTH and the rider of the horse B HUPPATZ in regard to the horses performing below expectations. Jockey B HUPPATZ stated that STREWTH had failed to respond to his riding at any stage of the race. Trainer Mr K LAMPRECHT stated that he was disappointed with the run and the horse had been working well through the week and he thought he could win. The only explanation he could give was the horse may have contacted a virus and he would have him checked by his Vet. An on course veterinarian examination revealed no abnormalities. The horse was also swabbed. Explanations noted by Stewards.

Stewards permitted trainer K LAMPRECHT to remove the blinkers on PHIL'S FAITH after confirming that a gear change form had been lodged as per the rules. Jockey B CORNELL was permitted to ride CRYSTAL SHINE 1kg overweight when no other rider was available. CRYSTAL SHINE (B Cornell) jumped inwards as start effected bumping KOHATON (G Lefoe). CENTRE MUSIC (B Sweeney) was slow to begin. KOHATON (G Lefoe) shifted outwards suddenly about 100 metres after the start. OUR FRISKY BOY (T Gillett) shifted inwards in the straight.

BINOCULARS (S Burrows) was slow to begin. Approaching the 600 metre mark BLARNEY BOY (M Cornell) shifted in slightly resulting in BOWEN SPECIAL (T Gillett) having to be eased. STAR DAMSEL (P Johnson) had difficulty in obtaining a clear run from the 400 metre mark. Subsequent to the race jockey B SWEENEY rider of KUERTEN reported to Stewards that the horse refused to stretch out throughout the race resulting in the horse finishing 60 lengths last. Stewards informed B SWEENEY, Foreman for trainer V OLDFIELD that KUERTEN was not to race again until a veterinary certificate of fitness and an EGC report is produced to Stewards. On return to the Enclosure it was observed that MAGIC WEASEL had cast a plate in the run.

LA MEXA (B Huppatz) raced erratically in the first 100 metres of the race. Stewards asked trainer N MOODY could he offer any explanation for IMPERT racing below expectations. Mr MOODY stated he expected IMPERT to be racing on the pace in the early stages of the race and was surprised to see the gelding so far back. Rider of IMPERT T NORTON stated he had ridden the horse with the whip in the first stages of the race, but the horse did not respond. This statement was confirmed by Stewards after viewing the race video. Subsequent to the race a veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards noted explanations.

Stewards questioned P Shires, rider of RODIN which performed below expectations. P Shiers stated that the gelding failed to finish off the race and in his opinion the horse failed to backup after racing only 7 days prior and that this was it’s third start in 4 weeks.

When the gates opened MANTIS stood flat footed and lost ground.

Shortly after the start PALACE LAD shifted out onto GREAT EAGLE.

RACE SEVEN CLASS 2 HCP – 15OO M

On jumping away ACELA was tightened for room by RICHOTTO.

Approaching the 1400 metres PERAK SILVER (NZ) had to be checked when tightened for room between ACELA which came in with RICHOTTO and JAYASHARRI which after being taken out slightly by GLITTER BUG was bumped on the hindquarters by PERAK SILVER (NZ) and shifted out. As there were several contributing factors stewards took no action other than to notify all riders that they must ensure they do their utmost to protect their fellow riders.

Near the 250 metres MOSSE, which was weakening, had to be eased off the heels of PERAK SILVER (NZ) (D Bates) which shifted out to obtain a clear run. D Bates was reprimanded for shifting ground when not 2 lengths clear.

Over the concluding stages PERAK SILVER (NZ) had a tendency to lay in which prevented D Bates from riding the gelding out to the best of his ability.

1st RICHOTTO 2nd PERAK SILVER 3rd SAHARA BRAVE

RACE EIGHT CLASS 3 HCP – 12OO M

On jumping away RUSTY DON and KABATEPE came together due to both horses shifting ground. As a result RUSTY DON became unbalanced and lost ground.

B Davis (a), rider of FULL GALLOP was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR137(a)). The careless riding being that near the 650 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of RUSTY DON which resulted in RUSTY DON having to be checked. B Davis was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 12th October 2002 (2 racemeetings).

Stewards questioned D Bates, rider of KABATEPE which performed below expectations. D Bates stated that he got caught wide on the gelding and it then appeared not to appreciate the sand coming back, however it was a beaten horse a long way from the finish and in his opinion the gelding had trained off and will be going for a spell.

On jumping away KEW was tightened for room between FRISK ME (NZ) and ROMANZA which shifted in abruptly.

Shortly after the start SKIING, which had been slow to begin, took a run on the inside of CATHALOOK which was shifting in. Some strides after, CATHALOOK ceased shifting in however SKIING rolled in for several strides afterwards and tightened BROOKLYN BULLET which had to be eased.

In the straight ROMANZA had a tendency to lay in which prevented B Davis (a) from riding the horse out in his normal manner.

As P Shiers, was to be overweight, the following rider changes were permitted;
Race 4 LA BON TON (NZ) - P Denton

Stewards accepted the explanation of P Shiers for being overweight however reprimanded him and notified him that a repetition would almost certainly see a penalty imposed.

En route to the barriers COSEVEIN became fractious and struck the running rail. On arrival at the barriers COSEVEIN was inspected by the club’s veterinary surgeon who reported that the gelding had cut it’s near hind leg and was unfit to start. Acting on the advice of the club’s veterinary surgeon, stewards ordered the withdrawal of COSEVEIN at 2.26pm. Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on COSEVEIN to be refunded and the following betting deductions. All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of COSEVEIN to be paid as follows- for the win, face value of the ticket less 13 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 16 cents in the dollar.

Shortly after the start FULL GALLOP shifted in onto LA BON TON (NZ) which had been slow away.

Rounding the turn DEE VEE DEE had a tendency to lay out.

Approaching the winning post ALL PO shifted out abruptly. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected ALL PO subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg.

Stewards questioned G Clarke, rider of DEE VEE DEE about that mare’s performance. G Clarke stated that he could offer no explanation other than the gelding blew a bit on pulling up. S Brown, the mare’s trainer stated that he did not expect it to win today as he believed it was weighted too high in this class of race. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected DEE VEE DEE subsequent to the event and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality.

RACE SIX CLASS 2 HCP – 1OOO M

When the gates opened TARCOOLA MAGIC jumped away awkwardly and shifted in bumping LEGAL REWARD. Shortly after this AIM TO PLEASE shifted in and made contact with TARCOOLA MAGIC.

Stewards questioned S Brownbill (a), rider of TARCOOLA MAGIC about that horses disappointing performance. S Brownbill (a) stated that TARCOOLA MAGIC was a beaten horse on the home turn and he could offer no explanation. S Brown, the horses’ trainer stated that the stable supported TARCOOLA MAGIC and he could not offer any explanation.

During the event LEGAL REWARD suffered an attack of bleeding.

When the gates opened MANISTEE threw it’s head up and was slow into stride.

Near the 1000 metres GREAT EAGLE shifted in and bumped HASTY RHYTHM which rolled out slightly. As a result both GREAT EAGLE and HASTY RHYTHM were hampered.

ARINNA hung badly for the majority of the race. L Williams, the filly’s trainer was notified that if it was to perform in a similar manner in future it may be suspended from racing.

G Clarke, trainer of CHEQUE ATTACK which was scratched from this event due to it being lame in the near foreleg was questioned regarding the circumstances surrounding the scratching. G Clarke stated that the gelding galloped on Wednesday and was lunged on Thursday and showed no sign of soreness, however when he lunged the gelding on Friday it was sore in the near foreleg. Stewards accepted the explanation of G Clarke in respect of the scratching of CHEQUE ATTACK.

Rounding the turn CRAZY COTTON had a tendency to lay out.

Stewards questioned D Bates, rider of KU RING GAI CHASE, which performed below expectations. D Bates stated that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and that the gelding would be going for a spell after today’s effort. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected KU RING GAI CHASE subsequent to the event and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality.

Mr A Trengrove, trainer of ANELLO ROSSO was fined $20 for using club colours on that gelding.

When the gates opened TOMMY TEE bounded.

On jumping away GREAT EAGLE was tightened between ARCH HENRY and BECCORINO both of which shifted.

Near the 100 metres BECCORINO, which was improving, shifted out to obtain a clear run on the outside of RIGHT STUFF which was weakening and in so doing bumped ARCH HENRY which was racing on it’s outside.

When the gates opened DEEP SEA DIVA was slow to begin.

B Schmidt was given permission to ride MOSSE ½ kilogram over its declared weight. B Schmidt was notified that if he was to accept rides outside his weight bracket in future he may be penalised.

Mr A Trengrove, trainer of SHE’S GOT FLAIR was fined $20 for using club colours on that mare.

Near the 500 metres THERMAL was taken out slightly be DEEP SEA DIVA and as a result had to be checked off the heels of MERRY BEACH which was weakening.

Stewards questioned B Davis (a) regarding his riding of THERMAL from the 400 metres. B Davis stated that he did not test the horse after being interfered with as he thought it was beaten. Mr L Houldsworth, trainer of THERMAL stated that he would have preferred to see B Davis (a) ride the gelding with more vigor in the straight. Stewards reprimanded B Davis (a) and notified him that his riding of THERMAL over the concluding stages was not to a standard expected by the stewards and in future he would be expected to test his mounts to the best of his ability.

During the event MERRY BEACH suffered lacerations to both hindlegs.

PRISMATIC REEF (S Burrows) jumped outward coming into contact with MURPHY'S PRIZE (T Norton). COSTA KEYS (B Cornell) was slow to begin. COSTA KEYS proved difficult to load into the barriers. Stewards informed MR G CONNOR, representative for trainer Mr N CONNOR that a warning will be placed against the gelding.

NT 2 OPEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES 6 STARTERS

HEAVEN DANCER (T Huish) reared as start effected resulting in the gelding being slow away. STAR DAMSEL (P Johnson) was disappointed for a clear run at about the 400 metre mark.

NT 3: CLASS D HANDICAP 1400 METRES 9 STARTERS

CENTRE DANCER was a late scratching by order of the Stewards after being cast in the starting stall and then escaping from attendants. GO BRAGH was examined by the veterinarian prior to the start and was passed fit to run. LOCKMASTER (M Cornell) and POWER TO THE MAX (T Gillett) came together just after the start. LOCKMASTER (M Cornell) shifted in badly in the final stages of the race. Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered all monies invested on CENTRE DANCER to be refunded and a deduction of 31c for the win and 21c for the place on successful wagers prior to the withdrawal of CENTRE DANCER. CENTRE DANCER will be required to pass a satisfactory barrier test before starting again.

1ST KOHATON 2ND KELTIC KID 3RD LOCKMASTER

SKYE KAYJOY (M Cornell) was slow to begin. Approaching the 400 metre mark jockey B HUPPATZ the rider of HE'S TOUGH ENOUGH accidentally dropped his whip. Trainer of SKYE KAYJOY Mr N CONNOR was informed by Stewards that SKYE KAYJOY was now barred from racing until proving to be competitive in an official barrier trial. A veterinary examination of SKYE KAYJOY subsequent to the race revealed no abnormalities.

SCAMADRO (P Johnson) shifted outwards shortly after the start.
FROZE (T Norton) raced very wide throughout the race. It was observed on return to scale that JUROMA was lame in his offside foreleg.

Approaching the 600 metre mark MR. SOUL (G Lefoe) shifted in slightly resulting in SIR ROMEO (B Huppatz) and PHIL'S FAITH (B Sweeney) having to be eased. Jockey G LEFOE, rider of MR. SOUL was reprimanded by Stewards and instructed to take more care when shifting ground in future.

Jockey B CORNELL was permitted by Stewards to ride DANGER'S PRIDE 1kg overweight when no suitable replacement rider was available. DANGER'S PRIDE underwent a veterinary examination prior to the race and was passed fit to run. KUERTEN (B Sweeney) jumped inwards as start effected forcing BY JOE (J O'Connor) onto FACTORWAY. Subsequent to the race Jockey B SWEENEY, rider of KUERTEN who had performed below expectations stated to Stewards that the gelding was under pressure from the start of the race and was ridden with the whip in the early stages but showed no response and continued to lose ground throughout the race. Trainer Mr V OLDFIELD stated that he thought that the gelding could win and had advised the owners accordingly. The only explanation he could offer was that the horse may have resented the sand coming back. A veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A swab was also taken from the gelding. All explanation noted.

LEGAL REWARD (P Johnson) reared as start effected losing considerable ground. Jockey P JOHNSON, rider of LEGAL REWARD dropped his whip at the start. KARESHIM (B Huppatz) and LIKE ALESHIA (G Lefoe) came together about 50 metres after the start. SKY KAYJOY (B Cornell) appeared not to handle the going. Trainer Mr N CONNOR stated to Stewards that there appeared to be no abnormalities with the mare on cooling down but he would have her inspected by his vet and would notify Stewards if anything was found. KARESHIM pulled up lame in the nearside foreleg. Trainer Mr W SAVAGE was informed that a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required by Stewards before being permitted to start again.
