Former top Perth based rider Jason Oliver was laid to rest after a moving funeral service in his home city this afternoon.

Hundreds of people attended today's funeral including his champion riding brother Damien, who won yesterday's Melbourne Cup aboard the Irish stayer Media Puzzle.

Oliver, who paid tribute to his brother during an emotional presentation ceremony at Flemington yesterday, told mourners of the great times the two had together.

"This is the day we celebrate your life," he said. "A life that was so fulfilled, yet still had so much more to give."

"You will never be fogotten buddy, I love you."

Jockeys, many of whom were riding against the talented hoop just two weeks ago, formed a guard of honour as Jason's coffin was escorted from the church.

He was then buried alongside his father, who 27 years ago was tragically killed in a race fall at Kalgoorlie.

Oliver's Horse Returns Positive Drugs Test

It has been confirmed that the horse which collapsed in a trial, and subsequently killed Jason Oliver in Perth on October 29th, 2002, had prohibited anti-inflammatory drugs in its system.

Oliver, 33, the brother of champion jockey Damien Oliver, died after the horse fell after completing a trial and then rolled on top of him.

The West Australian Turf Club chief steward John Zucal said in Perth yesterday that phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone were found in samples taken from the colt when it was put down shortly after the fall. The substances are barred from West Australian gallopers in racing and trials.

Zucal said a full scale stewards inquiry will begin on November 29th, 2002.

Damien Oliver flew immediately to Perth on news of the accident and then returned to ride at Flemington on Derby and Melbourne Cup days.

His subsequent win in the Melbourne Cup on Media Puzzle was an emotional highlight of the carnival for Oliver and the millions who saw the event live and on television worldwide. Oliver then flew back to Perth for the funeral of Jason the following day.
