S Maskiell (OCEANO) pleaded guilty under AR 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the line.  Jockey Maskiell was fined the sum of $100.

Tasmanian Turf Club Race 8 – 21 November 2004

Stewards questioned Jockey S Maskiell the rider of HIT THE SPOT in the Newnham Cup last week into the horse’s disappointing performance.  Jockey Maskiell stated the horse did not handle racing inside other runners and was of the opinion that if the horse did not get an easy run and then take an outside run the horse did not perform to its best.  Trainer C Goggin concurred with this.

ADDENDUM TO STEWARDS REPORT

TASMANIAN RACING CLUB – 17TH OCTOBER 2004

RACE 2 - WREST POINT FIVE STAR PREMIUM SUITE CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1920 METRES

Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted by Apprentice Kasey Boxall (LORRELEE).  Apprentice Boxall stated that her instructions by Trainer C Jordan were to lead.  Apprentice Boxall who has ridden the horse in track work and has also viewed the horse’s previous races, was of the opinion that if she had restrained the horse fully, the horse would have thrown its head in the air and raced ungenerously.  As such, she allowed the horse to go forward and believed that she had travelled at an acceptable pace.  Apprentice Boxall did try to restrain LORRELEE at the 1600 metre mark but was unable to, as the horse had begun to over race.  Stewards noted Apprentice Boxall’s explanation.
