r6paulharvey2.jpg (8401 bytes)Brilliant Perth jockey Paul Harvey is hoping his sizzling hot form from Wednesday continues at Belmont tomorrow.

The undisputed king of the west, Harvey guided home five of the seven winners at Belmont on Wednesday and tomorrow he has a great chance to extend his early lead in the premiership.

"I thought I had a nice book of rides," Harvey told Cyberhorse. "But you never go to the races expecting to ride a certain amount of winners, you can't."

Harvey's five winners equalled his personal best. "I've ridden five winners on the card four times now," Harvey said.

Thanks to win on Heartbeat, Vampire, Thompson's Bay, Carry Kali and Keldaan, Harvey's position on top of the premiership after just five weeks sits at a healthy six wins.

He has ridden 15 winners from just 49 mounts, an impressive winning percentage of 30.61. Harvey has also been placed on 9 other occasions since the meeting on August 3.

r6lindseysmith.jpg (9071 bytes)Currently Harvey has a six win break over Jason Whiting, while apprentice Shaun McGruddy and senior Jason Brown are a further two adrift.

Tomorrow at Belmont the winning form displayed by Harvey looks set to continue with a number of leading chances.

"Hopefully tomorrow I can have some more luck," he said.

Harvey will be hoping to extend his winning streak to five, after booting home the last four winners on Wednesday, with Marscara in the first event.

"She is trained by a very good trainer in Lindsey Smith and she is sure to run well," Harvey predicted.

The top jockey revealed his mount Star of Vain in the fifth race of day would be hard pressed to win back to back races.

The last start winner has fitness on his side, but one of Perth's most exciting young gallopers Hardrada is standing in the way tomorrow.

"He (Hardrada) is a very classy horse and he has a lot more natural ability than my mount," Harvey said.

"You'd have to think Hardrada would win."

Wolfe advised that he would attempt to correct the problem with gear alterations, however Stewards advised him that SCUETTO would have to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. When questioned on the poor performance of ZABARIAN, Jockey Stephen Miller advised that the mare had become excited and sweated up badly prior to entering the track. For this reason Jockey Chapman elected to allow the gelding to stride along, thereby leading. Trainer Mr R. McPherson confirmed these instructions and advised that he had expected UNCLE BRIAN to be ridden more prominently at its previous start, however the gelding had raced greenly and got back further in the field than anticipated.
