Track: Fast
Rail: 3 Metres

RACE 1: THE BRITISH STEEL – 1400M

DANGER HAND (B. Mathieson) commenced awkwardly then veered outwards bumping KING CANUTE (J. Whiting). Shortly after the start STAR OF VAIN (P. Harvey) and PLATINUM (P. Carbery) collided. Shortly after this STAR OF VAIN struck the hindquarters of QUEEN OF SPIRITS (Danny Miller) on its outside. At the 1300m PLATINUM steadied when STAR OF VAIN lay inwards. STAR OF VAIN then had a tendency to race fiercely. At the 1250m HOT STATS (J. Noske) restrained when close to the heels of KING CANUTE. In the middle stages, when being steadied, DANGER HAND got its head in the air. PLATINUM raced wide throughout and at the 400m bumped with SURROUNDINGS (T. Turner) which was attempting to angle outwards. Over the final 100m HALOPAK (K. Hawkins) lay outwards inconveniencing MASTER KEY (S. Parnham).

RACE 2: THE PROFITEER – 1300M

Shortly after the start DANGEROUS PLAY (S. Parnham) dipped. At the 900m KELTWING (L. Camilleri) steadied when MADAM GUNDA (P. Farrell) shifted inwards. Approaching the 900m MIXED LAD (S. McGruddy) was held tight by KALASTORM (N. Rudland) on its outside and shortly after restrained away from KALASTORM. Jockey N. Rudland (KALASTORM) was advised to make every effort to keep his mounts straight. Passing the 850m, MIXED LAD again steadied and lost ground when close to the heels of KALASTORM. FAULTLESS (J. Whiting) raced wide throughout. CLASSY RAVE (K. Hawkins) raced wide from the 800m. At the 400m HIDE THE HALO (J. Noske), when making ground, was blocked behind STAR OF HAWAIIAN (T. Turner) and angled inwards to obtain clear running. Leaving the 200m KALASTORM, when momentarily held up behind the tiring KELTWING, shifted inwards brushing MY PASS (W. Hughes). KALASTORM returned having cast its off hind plate. FAULTLESS returned having cast its near fore plate.

RACE 3: THE POWER PLUS – 1000M

PLACID PARK (C. Dredge) and TRUE AND CORRECT (A. Sansom) commenced awkwardly. SON OF VASAC (P. Harvey) was slow into stride. Leaving the 400m MON DESIR (L. Camilleri) was held up and when attempting a run on the outside of PLACID PARK, raced tightly with DOUBLE JEWEL (S. Parnham) for a short distance. MON DESIR then angled inwards and was further blocked for a clear run. Approaching the 200m DOUBLE JEWEL hung inwards and restrained away from the heels of PLACID PARK. SERGESKY (S. McGruddy) was momentarily held up on straightening and at the 200m bumped on several occasions with TRUE AND CORRECT on its outside.

RACE 4: THE GOODWOOD SPRINT – 1300M

On jumping WHITE FOIL (P. King) veered inwards as NORTHERLY (P. Carbery) shifted outwards quickly. PINDARRI (J. Whiting) was severely inconvenienced in this incident. CORPORATE BRUCE (K. Hawkins) was slow into stride. At the 1100m NORTHERLY shifted outwards bumping WHITE FOIL, which then raced wide thereafter. At the 900m THE TIN MAN (A. Sansom) was held tight by SENATE LEASE (S. McGruddy) on its outside. Leaving the 800m THE TIN MAN contacted WHITE FOIL on its outside. On straightening THE TIN MAN was momentarily held up. When questioned Jockey P. Carbery advised that NORTHERLY had commenced awkwardly and shortly after he elected to shift the gelding off the rail to the two wide position and in doing so bumped with WHITE FOIL. He further added that NORTHERLY raced truly in the straight, but he had carried the whip in the left hand as he believed that the gelding was better suited to that style of riding. WHITE FOIL returned with an abrasion to the near fore pastern and the near hind coronet. PINDARRI and MASTER PARK (L. Camilleri) returned having cast their near fore plates.

RACE 5: THE STRAIGHT NO ICE – 1600M

PROVEN DESTINY (L. Camilleri) was slow to begin. Approaching the 1400m MIDAS ROSE (P. Harvey) got its head in the air and raced ungenerously for a short distance. At the 1400m HI DAWN (Danny Miller) raced keenly and near the 900m steadied when close to the heels of KIM TILLA (P. Farrell). SCENIC CRUISE (S. McGruddy) made the turn into the straight wide and bumped with VAIN ZOE (P. King) on its inside. MIDAS ROSE was blocked for a clear run from the 400m until approaching the 100m. Approaching the 200m GUARDED ANSWER (P. Carbery) was steadied when RECALL A STORM (D. Randall) shifted inwards. At the 200m SCENIC CRUISE lay inwards bumping VAIN ZOE. Jockey S. McGruddy was warned and advised to exercise more care in future. Approaching the 100m RECALL A STORM lay inwards under pressure carrying LUCE ROYALE (Stephen Miller) in onto KIM TILLA which shifted inwards slightly. At the same time HI DAWN lay outwards and MIDAS ROSE was attempting a run between KIM TILLA and HI DAWN. MIDAS ROSE and HI DAWN bumped with HI DAWN then checking away from the heels of GLITZY SHOW (J. Whiting). Whilst no rider could be held culpable, Stewards warned all riders to exercise more care in future.

RACE 6: THE WABASSO – 1600M

ALL IRISH (Jason Miller) was slow into stride. THURSTON (Stephen Miller) was slow into stride and shortly afterwards was inconvenienced when NIEBIESKI (J. Noske) veered outwards. On straightening MUEZZIN (J. Whiting) shifted outwards in an attempt to obtain a clear run and bumped heavily with KONJO (P. King) on its outside. After this MUEZZIN was unable to obtain a clear run near the 200m. At the 200m ALL IRISH and UNLIMITING (K. Hawkins) bumped. Apprentice T. Bajramovic was questioned regarding the riding of ALBANY BOY. Apprentice Bajramovic explained that she had been instructed to lead if possible, however after being crossed by LOCH WOOD, the gelding had commenced to race fiercely and she had elected to shift to the outside of LOCH WOOD. ALBANY BOY had then commenced to race fiercely and she considered her best option was to race on the outside of LOCH WOOD. She further explained that ALBANY BOY had raced extremely keenly with blinkers for the first time.

RACE 7: THE PALACE GUEST – 2000M

DASHING SCENE (K. Hawkins) commenced awkwardly. TANGO MAN (Jason Brown) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 1400m DASHING SCENE got its head in the air. MASTER CLAN (Danny Miller) raced wide throughout. TRUE STEEL (J. Oliver) was momentarily held up from the 500m until the 450m. Jockey P. Carbery reported that OHIO had an inclination to lay inwards over the final 200m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MASTER CLAN, Jockey Danny Miller explained that the gelding had not started in a race for approximately one month and had been obliged to race wide throughout. In his opinion this had contributed to the poor performance of MASTER CLAN.

Brooks was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of TOTALLY FOCUSED. He explained that he had increased the gelding’s workload since the previous unplaced performance at Wyndham on 10 August, 2002, and attributed this to the improved performance of TOTALLY FOCUSED today. When questioned as to the disappointing performance of EIRECON, Jockey C. Fox was at a loss to explain the run other than to say that the gelding had been under pressure from the 600m. Trainer Mr K. Moore was of the opinion that EIRECON may have resented racing back in the field with dirt coming back into the gelding’s face. It was his intention to have EIRECON ridden as close to the lead as possible in future starts.
