Excites Ready to Explode into a Star

Warwick Farm trainer Guy Walter unleashed three of his spring heavyweights in exhibition gallops at Randwick on Saturday, amongst which was an untapped three-year-old with a name reflecting his ability that could be poised to claim the mantle of Australia's best youngster.

Excites has furnished into a strapping and imposing three-year-old which oozes class and judging by his narrow but commanding winning margin over stable mate Patezza he could be ready to develop into a star.

"I am very pleased with him," commented Walter in a tone inferring that he was more excited than he wished to divulge.

"And he's really filled out into a lovely colt."

The well-related bay stormed onto the scene when winning the G1 AJC Sires' Produce Stakes in the autumn at just his third race start but was immediately sent to the paddock by Walter who is renowned for his patience.

"He will have another gallop on Tuesday before resuming in the Premiere on Saturday," revealed Walter.

"We will then run him in the Golden Rose two weeks later."

Walter was non-committal as to where Excites would venture after the Golden Rose but said a southern sojourn, targeting the Canterbury Guineas, was on the agenda.

"You never know he might not be a stayer so we will wait and see."

An inspection of Excites pedigree confirms Walter's query is justified.

By champion galloper Danewin from the brilliant multiple group winning mare Staging, Excites bloodlines do possess more speed than stamina but his pattern of racing suggests that perhaps 1600m-2000m is possible, if not probable.

After all, Staging did win the 1999 G2 Emancipation Stakes over a mile and was placed behind champion Tie The Knot in the 2000 G1 Chipping Norton over the same distance.

And his sire Danewin excelled over 2000m, recording all his five G1 victories over the mile-and-a-quarter - the 1994 Spring Champion Stakes, 1995 Doomben Cup, Rosehill Guineas, Caulfield Stakes and Mackinnon Stakes.

Walter's other gallopers, G1 winners Court's In Session and Patezza, will trial again at Warwick Farm on Friday.

Court's In Session, which flopped badly after winning brilliantly first-up during the Autumn, will resume in the Warwick Stakes on August 26 but Walter admitted the horse's future was still "up in the air" and he will be taken along slowly.

As for Patezza, last year's Doncaster Handicap hero will resume in the Show County Quality at Randwick in a fortnight and then run in the Tramway and Shannon Quality en route to a shot at another famous mile, the Epsom Handicap on October 7.

Gold Edition Shows The Boys How It’s Done

Top flight Queensland filly Gold Edition turned the saying ‘a good colt will always beat a good filly' on its head at Royal Randwick on Saturday when giving her male counterparts a galloping lesson in the G3 San Domenico Stakes (1000m).

The beautifully balanced grey filly enjoyed a cosy run just behind the pace and when asked to quicken by regular rider Glenn Lynch responded instantly, exploding around the turn to establish a winning break that her pursuers found impossible to bridge.

Saturday's juvenile feature is the traditional spring launching pad for budding three-year-old stars in Sydney but none of the more fancied runners did much to indicate that a prosperous spring beckons - but there were some legitimate excuses.

On face value the likes of Wonderful World, Casino Prince, Backdraft and Absolutelyfabulous, which all showed immense promise as two-year-olds, failed to flatter, but perhaps the five furlong scamper was simply too short at this stage of their preparation to display their true wares.

Certainly Wonderful World and Casino Prince should have their runs forgotten as both were carted towards the grandstand as the field swung for home after Wonderful World took control of its jockey Darren Beadman which then interfered with Jimmy Cassidy's mount Casino Prince, sending that galloper sideways.

But the win was a thoroughly deserved one for Gold Edition and followed on from her excellent Queensland winter form which included a last start second to the talented Danleigh in the G2 Sires' Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm in June.

The San Domenico represented Gold Edition's fourth stakes success too having already captured the G2 BTC Champagne Classic and STC Magic Night Stakes as well as the listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic - she would now be worth a tidy sum based on this injection of black-type!

It also continued the potent combination of jockey Glenn Lynch and Toowoomba trainer Ron Maund.

"She's a great filly and will improve a few lengths from that," reported former New Zealander Glen Lynch.

"Just over the last 100m she was found wanting because I probably went a bit soon but she got the nice run and was just too good," he said.

Maund was not present at Randwick yesterday but was represented by foreman Neville Saunders.

"She's just such a lovely filly with a great will to win," commented Saunders.

"I'm not sure if we will aim her at the Princess series yet though because I think 1400m might pull her up," he said, "we'll wait and see."

However that's exactly where Maund's other prized Toowoomba filly Pure Energy will head.

"She [Pure Energy] is smaller than the other one but is a lot grosser," Saunders explained.

"She always takes a couple of runs to come good so we are not worried."

"Her second dam is by Sir Tristram so I think she is more of a chance to get over ground."

Probably the best run outside of the winner came from the Clarry Conners trained My Middi which ran home strongly from well back in the ruck to claim second with Encosta de Lago filly Astounded also pleasing connections with her third.

Purchased for $130,000 at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm from the draft of the Moran's Noble Park Stud, Gold Edition has now won six of her thirteen starts with career earnings in excess of $613,000.

By ill-fated Danehill stallion Lion Hunter, Gold Edition is from the Success Express mare Glimmers. Her fourth dam, Queen of Cornwall, is the mother of the Swettenham Stud bred Dutchy of Cornwall who in turn has thrown stakes-winners Civil List, Lands End and Newquay.

Other progeny of Dutchy of Cornwall, by The Minstrel, include Danehill brothers St Pirian and Point of Honour, with the former being recently retired to stud, and Tintagel Head, the dam of handy Lindsay Park colts Dantage and Headland.

Court Command Another Feather in Golden Rose's Cap

Court Command's bid for the mantle of Sydney's most gifted thee-year-old gained further credence on Saturday when the emerging superstar scored a demoralising victory in the $1million G3 Tooheys New Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill.

"I didn't know he was this good but now I do," exclaimed his delighted trainer Darren Smith.

The strapping bay colt, which annihilated most of Saturday's rivals by four lengths in the G3 Up and Coming Stakes last weekend, was at his unfettered best leading throughout for a 2 ¼ lengths win in a brilliant display of sustained speed which is quickly establishing itself as his trademark.

The Bart Cummings trained Empires Choice ran on strongly for second whilst race favourite Mentality worked home solidly for third. The performance of Excites should also be noted storming home for fifth after being inconvenienced approaching the turn.

"He is a pretty special horse to do this on the back of last week's win," Smith said of his latest stable star.

"I think we press on to the Caulfield Guineas now that's our main aim but we will let the horse tell us."

The G1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 14 looked to be at the mercy of Melbourne's elite three-year-olds such as Haradasun, Miss Finland and Sharkbite, but the emergence of Court Command as a genuine contender means the three-year-old spring feature is shaping as an encounter of an epic scale.

And speaking of group one's it seems only a matter of time until the Golden Rose is granted such status.

In its brief but influential history the Golden Rose has entrenched itself as a race that produces the champions of tomorrow with the likes of Racing To Win, Paratroopers, and God's Own among its list of notable graduates. Even its predecessor, the Peter Pan Stakes, was integral in launching the careers of many a class thoroughbred among which included Kingston Town, Best Western, Sir Dapper, March Hare, Brave Warrior, Flying Spur and Magic Albert.

The Golden Rose has also played a major role in the development of Court Command's sire Commands' stud career which is on the ascent in a big way.

Woodlands' prolific sire of winners has also recently added Paratroopers, Imprisoned and With A Chance to his growing list of stakes winners.

To give an example of Commands' emerging presence on the stallion landscape, last season he finished a career-best seventh on the Australian General Sires list with earnings of $5,614,987. This is some accomplishment when you consider that the only sires placed above him were industry heavyweights Redoute's Choice, Encosta de Lago, Zabeel, Desert King (Makybe Diva as flag-bearer), Danehill and Flying Spur.

As stated above Commands also sired the winner of last year's Golden Rose in Paratroopers, Crown Lodge's ultra-professional grey which has gone on to establish himself as one of the finest equine athletes in the country.

Paratrooper's also contested last year's Caulfield Guineas but fell agonisingly short when gunned down right on the line in a freakish performance by the Bart Cummings trained God's Own.

However we have since discovered that the Woodlands four-year-old is suspect over the mile journey, a distance that holds no fears though for Court Command's jockey Daryl McLellan who insists that the Newcastle trained youngster will rise to another level.

"When he gets to a mile he will go even better, because he rolls along in front but feels like he's cantering and he just finds when you ask him," he stated confidently.

"He has the ability to run amazing sectionals and only the really good ones can do that."

"When we get serious with him we are really going to let them have it," he said ominously.

"He's only going to get better and who knows where he'll stop."

From the Zoffany mare Court House Lane Court Command was a $120,000 Inglis Classic Sale purchase.

Beadman Blitzes Record

The anticipation over the past fortnight has been steadily rising but finally at Randwick's Kensington track today champion jockey Darren Beadman bettered his own NSW jockeys premiership record for winning rides set only last year by riding his 144th winner for the season aboard the Clarry Conners trained mare Sky Blitz in the Randwick Betting Auditorium Handicap (1400m).

Beadman has been a completely dominating force this racing season, with his nearest rival Zac Purton languishing on 68 winners, and in a matter of weeks will officially claim his fourth consecutive jockeys' premiership and his sixth overall since his inaugural appearance on the honour roll in 1994-95.

"Naturally I tried to be leading jockey again this season but I never set out to break the record, just to get as many winners as I could," Australia's pre-eminent jockey said modestly.

"Kimmy [his wife Kim who is also his manager] and the girls were over near the 800m mark cheering so that made it even better," he beamed proudly.

Winning trainer Clarry Conners was predictably full of praise for Beadman's milestone and also pleased with Sky Blitz's effort.

"What can you say, he's [Beadman] simply the best," exclaimed Conners.

And as for the victorious daughter of Hurricane Sky, "she's not very big but she has been very consistent throughout her career and from barrier one with D Beadman on board she had a lot in her favour."

Sky Blitz was the recipient of a typically adroit ride by Beadman who had the four-year-old chestnut positioned three horses back enjoying a cosy trail before scooting along the fence and proving too strong for Strategic's Jewel by 1 ¼ lengths with Hennessy Beau a further short head away third.

Bred by Holbrook Thoroughbreds Sky Blitz is out of Breathless, by Vain's Brian Crowley Stakes winning son Whinavi and a half-sister to stakes winners Burglar Of Bamff and Yodelay from Yodelling Lady.

Yodelay, by Marscay, is a full-sister to the brilliant producer Yodells who is, of course, the dam of Iglesia (G2 Silver Slipper Stakes, G3 Standish Handicap), Tyrolean (SAJC Brock Partners Trophy) and the marvellous stayer Yippyio, winner of the G1 Queensland Derby and Brisbane Cup among others.

Fast ‘N’ Famous Sets His Sights on Melbourne Spring Glory

Prodigiously gifted sprinter Fast 'N' Famous will be afforded the opportunity to live up to his glamorous name by chasing group one glory later in the spring after cruising to his fourth consecutive victory in the That Hat Doesn't Fit Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill today.

"He showed his true colours today," remarked a satisfied trainer John O'Shea.

"I'm not sure where we will go next with him but he's going to step up now."

"At this stage I would like to run him in either the Salinger or the Gilgai," he revealed.

The G3 Gilgai Stakes, scheduled to be run at Flemington on October 7, and the G1 Salinger Stakes, also programmed to be run down the straight six on November 4, will suit Fast ‘N' Famous according to O'Shea.

"I think he will be a nice straight six horse."

Today, the lightly raced - just six starts to his credit thus far - and exquisitely bred Fast ‘N' Famous expended minimal energy in registering his fourth career win when sprinting well clear of his vastly inferior rivals and stopping the clock at a superb 1:09.75.

Champion jockey Darren Beadman even had the luxury of a cheeky peep over his left shoulder passing the 200m as he guided Fast ‘N' Famous home to a facile 3 ½ lengths win under hands and heels riding from Mr Incredible and Te Deum.

"That was impressive. He's a very smart horse," commented Beadman after dismounting.

Fast ‘N' Famous has always displayed well above average ability from the moment he stepped onto the racetrack as a two-year-old in February 2005.

Whilst his 2yo campaign yielded no successes he did race in the best of company against the likes of Fashions Afield, Written Tycoon and Pendragon before being sent to the paddock by O'Shea who clearly felt he would make a better 3yo.

But unfortunately those plans went awry when, after winning his only 3yo start by 3.3 lengths, he had his progress interrupted by a pelvic injury which of course required time to heal.

But thanks to O'Shea's patience and persistence Fast ‘N' Famous is now fully rehabilitated and appears poised to finally realise his potential.

Secured for $660,000 at the 2004 Easter Yearling Sale Fast 'N' Famous is owned by The Yellow Brick Rd Co Syndicate which is headed up by, among others, Waikato Stud's Gary Chittick.

A handsome four-year-old by marquee stallion Redoute's Choice from the duel listed winner Zalinda, Fast ‘N' Famous is a descendant of the excellent NZ matriarch Royal News whom he counts as his fourth dam.

Sired by Cambridge Stud's super stallion Zabeel, Zalinda is a daughter of G1 Railway Handicap winning mare Alynda, by Nassau from Betty Box, and is a half-sister to NZ G3 winner Alinsky, by Stravinsky, and a three-quarter sister to stakes winners Altrista, by Sir Tristram, and Capestad, by Kaapstad.

Other esteemed family members include Maroof's VRC Derby winning son Hit The Roof, AJC Derby hero Ivory's Irish, G2 St Leger winner Full At Last, Big Barron, which annexed the 1992 G2 The Dalgety (now known as the G3 Saab Quality), and Queensland listed winner Fresno Canyon.

Teranaba Out to Emulate Hotel Grand

{SCPinterestShare href=https://www.virtualformguide.com/racing-news/new-south-wales/30111--sp-288043411.html layout=standard image=https://www.virtualformguide.com/images/stories/new_south_wales.gif desc=Randwick trainer Anthony Cummings is confident three-year-old Anabaa colt Teranaba can dispel the disappointment of missing last weekend's Golden Rose... size=small}
Randwick trainer Anthony Cummings is confident three-year-old Anabaa colt Teranaba can dispel the disappointment of missing last weekend's Golden Rose when he contests the Listed $70,000 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at Randwick's Kensington track today.

The up-and-coming Teranaba, which scored a determined win at his only start at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago, failed to make the ballot for the $1 million Rosehill feature due to inadequate prizemoney but that hasn't deterred Cummings who believes the horse can progress quickly through the grades and ultimately compete against the top tier of three-year-olds.

"I quite like him he's a really nice horse I think," commented Cummings after the youngster's debut performance.

Teranaba, which will be attempting the rarely achieved feat of graduating straight from a maiden to listed company, will have to be endowed with significant ability in order to accomplishment the task Cummings has set him today. But Cummings is under no illusions as to the difficulty of today's test or Teranaba's talent.

"It's definitely a big test but I am confident that he is up this standard," confided Cummings.

After today's Ming Dynasty Teranaba will continue on a path that could lead him to the Victoria Derby with the Spring Stakes at Newcastle, Tulloch Stakes and the Spring Champion Stakes his immediate goals.

This is the same route Cummings' outstanding four-year-old Hotel Grand pursued last year with his campaign ending in glorious circumstances with victory in the G1 Spring Champion.

"The Derby is a possibility because I think he is tough enough to do that."

As for any similarities between duel G1 winner Hotel Grand, which Cummings reports is recuperating well from the injury he sustained in last year's Rosehill Guineas, and Teranaba the trainer says they possess comparable levels of athletic ability.

"Yes they have similar characteristics in some respects and similar ability as well," he said.

"But this bloke has a better record at the same stage as he won his first race."

Among Teranaba's opponents today will be John O'Shea's highly touted duo Just Mambo and Two Twenty Swift, David Hayes' impeccably bred Danequest, Theseo, Sermon and $1.1 million Redoute's Choice colt Mearas which finished a promising sixth to Teranaba on debut.

At Ease’s Sizzling Return

Classy four-year-old mare At Ease claimed her first black-type success in style today when producing an acute burst of acceleration to win the Listed Premier Warehousing & Distribution Sheraco Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.

Trained by Warwick Farm horseman Steve Englebrecht, At Ease was resuming since being narrowly defeated by Pasikatera in the Listed James HB Carr Stakes in April of this year.

Indeed the daughter of Golden Slipper winning stallion Canny Lad has often indicated that stakes grade was not beyond her with her only other stakes placing last September in the Reginald Allen Handicap, astern of G1 winner Regal Cheer and Astronomia, underwriting her potential.

Racing just once as a two-year-old At Ease is a fine example of what can be achieved with a modicum of patience with today's win boosting her winning strike rate to 33 per cent from 12 starts.

Aided by a solid tempo courtesy of Gilded Grace's unencumbered racing style At Ease was allowed to drift back to near last for Larry Cassidy before working into the race at about the 400m.

Momentarily blocked for a run At Ease eventually pushed the highly-fancied Redoute's Choice mare Rosecutter aside to establish clear running and then exploded, zooming to the line to post a most impressive long neck win from last start winner Sugarbomb with grey six-year-old mare Fire Song hanging on well for third.

"She got into a bit of a bumping duel with Rosecutter and I thought we were up the creek," explained a relieved Englebrecht.

"But when she got out she knuckled down and got to the line really well."

"She's got a great turn of foot when she's let go and that was great win."

At Ease will now be stepped up to group level and will contest the G3 Research Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill on September 16 with the remainder of her campaign hinging on that performance according to Englebrecht.

"We will wait and see but I would like to travel to Melbourne for some of those nice fillies and mares stakes races", he said.

Purchased cheaply for just $12,000 at the 2003 Classic Yearling Sale At Ease has proved an astute investment as she has already accrued $171,650 prizemoney.

By Woodlands' highly competent colonial-bred Canny Lad, the sire of star gallopers Accomplice, Dodge, Allez Suez, Ancient Song, Calveen, Cannsea and Republic Lass, At Ease is from the Salieri mare Southern Royale.

At Ease's acquisition of black-type is a timely boost to her pedigree which has been devoid of such prestige for some time. In fact the most recent family member to enjoy such honours was Darling Take Care, a daughter of At Ease's third dam Darling Beware, which won the G2 Edward Manifold Stakes and G2 Leilani Stakes way back in 1981.

Eremein's Cox Plate Reminder to El Segundo

Sydney's pre-eminent weight-for-age galloper Eremein confirmed his WS Cox Plate credentials with a thrilling victory over the courageous Newton's Rings in the $200,000 Chelmsford Stakes (1550m) on Randwick's Kensington track today.

The Geoff and Beryl White owned, and bred, Eremein continued his ascent into the realm of the most elite thoroughbreds of the past decade with Saturday's superb win increasing his prize money haul to $4,142,845, amassed from his enviable career record of 11 wins from 23 starts.

But Saturday's victory was merely an appetiser for what lies in wait for the chestnut over the spring with the weight-for-age championship of Australasia, the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 28, his prime target.

And champion jockey Glen Boss has declared the outstanding Allan Denham-trained galloper spot-on for his prestigious spring goal.

"I'm telling you it's just such a privilege to ride this horse," exclaimed a jubilant Boss.

"He's the best weight-for-age horse in Australia," the G1 specialist proclaimed

"He is heading for a big spring."

"He was there to be beaten today but he showed that tremendous fighting spirit and really lifted."

Eremein emerged from the pack and lengthened beautifully in the heavy conditions to edge out Newton's Rings by a nose just when he looked the winner after sprinting clear at the 300m.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Aqua D'Amore, which also appears right on track for her spring campaign, worked home strongly to finish third a further 1 ¾ lengths astern.

Newton's Rings Muswellbrook-based trainer Jeff Englebrecht was in awe of the performance of his marvellous six-year-old which was stepping up sharply in grade and chasing his fifth consecutive win.

"It's certainly no disgrace to be beaten a nose by the best horse in Australia," commented Englebrecht.

The Chelmsford Stakes success forced Eremein's Cox Plate price to firm from $7 into $5 according to leading Australian bookmaker Michael Eskander and he is now second favourite behind El Segundo at $4.50.

By Woodman's 1994 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and 1995 Preakness Stakes winning son Timber Country, standing this season at Eliza Park, Eremein is the second named horse from the Marscay mare Marrego out of Rewhite.

Marrego also has an unnamed yearling colt by Redoute's Choice and gave birth to a Flying Spur filly seven days ago at Orange Grove Stud. She has a date with shuttle sire Anabaa at Widden Stud this breeding season.

Eremein's six stakes triumphs to date have been at either G1 or G2 level and are a testimony to his enormous quality and that he has only ever competed against the best.

His 5 G1 wins are the 2006 The BMW, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Ranvet Stakes and 2005 AJC Derby and Rosehill Guineas.

RACE 1 – Wyong Golf Club Maiden Handicap (Div 1) 1000m

On jumping Levende reared missing the start considerably. Trainer K Stewart was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of Levende. Chilton, which jumped awkwardly, raced greenly in the early stages and then hung in in the straight. Near the 400m Entreaty was disappointed for a run to the inside of Royal Masterpiece, checked, shifted outwards, clipped the heels of Appo and blundered. Red Raphier hung in in the straight proving difficult to ride.

RACE 6 – Lawler Partners Class 4 Handicap 1100m

Balancing Act slipped at the start losing ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Seguista, apprentice T Muto stated that after being slow to begin his mount, which was resuming from a spell, was unable to keep up with the fast early pace. He said despite his urgings Seguista did not run on as he would have expected and was disappointing. Trainer P Perry will be interviewed regarding the poor run. Taxed bled from both nostrils for the first time and will incur the mandatory three months bar.

RACE 7 – Wyong Rugby League Club Provincial Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1600m

As N Seymour failed to arrive on course, J Grisedale was substituted as the rider of Sindbad. N Seymour will be interviewed. The start was delayed while Dr Circ, which cast its near hind plate en route to the barriers, was re-plated. After being loaded in the barriers O’mars became fractious and reared dislodging its rider D Beadman. In the early stages I Declare overraced getting its head up. Rounding the turn near the 1000m Sindbad, which was racing fiercely, shifted in crowding Costagem which was checked off that gelding’s heels, shifted out abruptly inconveniencing Channon Legend and Zatso. Near the 400m Sindbad, which continued to race fiercely, had to be steadied away from the heels of the tiring Master Splinter.

RACE 8 – Lawler Partners Class 2 Handicap 2100m

Gunnery which was kicked behind the gates was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Spinnaker jumped awkwardly, raced greenly in the middle stages and shifted in near the 1000m crowding Artesiana which struck the running rail and became unbalanced. Spinnaker was held up approaching and rounding the home turn and over the final 100 metres raced erratically under pressure. Approaching the home turn In The Bag was held up behind Hyper Oak and making the turn had to be steadied and shift to the outside of that gelding which commenced to tire. Flying Fancy was unable to obtain clear running in the straight and went to the line without being fully tested. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Hyper Oak, trainer G Yorke stated that in his opinion after being caught three wide throughout, when the field sprinted at the 600m the gelding was left flatfooted. He said that Hyper Oak had pulled up well and undertook to report if there is anything amiss with the gelding in the days subsequent. A post race veterinary inspection of Your Day revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the off hind leg.

RACE 9 – Sea-FM Class 1 Handicap 1100m

The start of the race was delayed as Priceless Treasure proved difficult to get to the gates. Trainer Mr P Perry was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s behaviour. Near the 1000m Naberzox laid in crowding Planagram. Shortly after this Shiatsu shifted in away from Covet Thee (M Travers), which shifted in resulting in Naberzox being crowded in onto Planagram which had to be checked. Apprentice M Travers was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he allows sufficient room for runners to his inside. Too Foxy did not obtain clear running over the final 100 metres. After the race trainer M Thexton reported that Planagram had sustained a laceration to the off hock.

Magnificently bred three-year-old Oloprey looks set for a lucrative spring campaign after discarding his maiden status with consummate ease in the Parramatta Leagues Club Class Three Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill today.

Oloprey is owned by prominent racing identities Geoff and Beryl White who also owned his illustrious half-siblings, Yippyio and Iglesia, out of the marvellous Marscay producer Yodells.

By highly-rated Coolmore stallion Fusaichi Pegasus, which seems nicely positioned to deliver on his enormous potential this season with the likes of Haradsun, Hachiman and John O'Shea's boom unraced filly Hollaback representing him, Oloprey is bred to be a star of the turf and will get his chance to push those credentials as trainer Jack Denham has nominated him for both the Canterbury Guineas and Victoria Derby.

"They are great people to train for, always have been and always will be," commented Allan Denham, acting on behalf of his father Jack, regarding the White's.

"He hasn't stopped improving and he's out of a very good mare as everyone knows."

"He's pretty good."

Oloprey, which started favourite ($3.90) in the field of nine, showed good speed to cruise to the front where he remained unchallenged and at the 600m mark the chestnut colt was travelling kindly for jockey Danny Beasley.

As the home straight beckoned his rivals made their moves but Oloprey was idling and he quickly let down strongly under hands and heels riding to go on and win by a convincing 2 length margin from Voltabolta and All Black Gold.

"He was never out of second gear today," said Danny Beasley.

"He's a very nice horse."

As mentioned above Oloprey is out of the Marscay mare Yodells and is half-relation to G1 Brisbane Cup and G1 Queensland Derby winner Yippyio and G2 Silver Slipper Stakes speed machine Iglesia who is now a most promising stallion for Neville Stewart's Oaklands Stud in Queensland.

Stakes winning Danehill mare Tyrolean also boasts Yodell's as her dam and has recently entered motherhood herself foaling a filly by Giant's Causeway and two colts by Encosta de Lago and Elusive Quality.

Yodell's is from the Paris Review mare Yodelling Lady who has also produced listed winner Yodelay, also by Marscay, and Queensland G3 winner Burglar of Bamff.

Other news emanating from the White-Denham camp concerns one of the anticipated spring heavyweights of the upcoming Sydney and Melbourne carnivals in mulitple G1 winner Eremein.

The son of Timber Country performed smartly in an exhibition gallop over 800m today with Allan Denham declaring he was "right on track" to resume in the G2 Warwick Stakes on August 26 with his main spring target being the G1 Cox Plate in late October.
